Darío González, who is tied for 7th in the OBA in quality starts with 5, played a key role in a gritty 2-0 Kitchener Wild Pigeons win against the Markham Wheelwrights. González, now 5-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs.
In the top of the second, Kitchener catcher Cipriano Ávalos whacked a curveball to left for a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season put the Wild Pigeons in front, 2-0.
Ávalos said he "would like to have scored more runs for Garza. But we'll gladly take this win."
Kitchener occupies first place in the Ontario Baseball Association Ontario South at 18-13.
