The Seki Katanakaji and Kumamoto Kuma provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Kumamoto Kuma faced a tough opponent in Seki pitcher Steve Stewart, but still scratched out a win at Kuma Stadium by a final score of 3-2 in 12 innings. Stewart went 10 innings and allowed 2 runs. The Kuma move to 40-30 with the win, while the Katanakaji drop to 30-40.

Batting in the bottom of the 12th, 25-year old catcher Miguel Ángel Novoa had a real shot to win the game. Seki pitcher Raúl Casas was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Novoa hit a run-scoring single. The Kuma had a walk-off triumph.

"You need to show up when your number's called," said Novoa.
