The Matsuyama Kawauso and Yamatokoriyama Kingyo provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Yamatokoriyama Kingyo topped the Matsuyama Kawauso, 9-8, with left fielder Jesús Vázquez playing a big role. Vázquez went 3-4 with 2 doubles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Kingyo in the win. Miqueas Estrada picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 8-8. Win Mercer suffered the loss.

In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 8-8, 37-year old third baseman Bert Myers won it for Yamatokoriyama. With the bases loaded, Myers hit a 0-2 fastball from Win Mercer for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 9-8 win.

Vázquez said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.

The Kingyo, at 46-32, sit in first place in the Southern League.
