Bonebreakers Lose as Wheelwrights Stage Late Rally
|
Pickering first baseman Penn Longley had a good game, even if his team did not. The Bonebreakers dropped a 6-4 decision to Markham at Bonebreakers Park. Longley hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Javier Díaz, the winner, is now 2-2. He struck out 5 and walked 2 over 8 innings, while allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. Charlie Leighton recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 5 for 5.
Markham used the clutch hitting of Pedro Martínez to snag the win. The right fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Wheelwrights ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"I felt good up there," said Martínez. "I saw the ball well."
Their 34-42 record puts the Wheelwrights 4th in the Ontario Baseball Association Ontario South.
