Rocking Horses Escape Cordwainers in 12, Now Lead Series 1-0
|
The Winchendon Rocking Horses took the first game of the Championship of New England in dramatic fashion, topping the Auburn Cordwainers, 5-4, in an extra-inning walk-off win. Rocking Horses left-hander Alfredo Guzmán threw 9.1 innings of 6-hit ball.
Batting in the bottom of the 12th, 29-year old third baseman Urayoán Balderas had a real shot to win the game. Auburn pitcher Armando Galindo was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Balderas hit a run-scoring single. The Rocking Horses had a walk-off triumph.
"That was a lot of fun, watching both teams compete," said Rocking Horses manager Roberto Ortiz.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Toy Store in Winchendon.
