The Lares Gritantes topped the Mayaguez Alfereces, 11-3, with youngster Andrew Starnes playing a key role. Starnes was 2-4 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs for the Gritantes in the win. Ladislao Utset finished the game for Lares and earned his 1st save.

The Gritantes got an important contribution from third baseman Pedro Valarezo, who in the bottom of the eighth hit a first pitch changeup to right for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Gritantes ahead, 11-3.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Valarezo.

The Gritantes raised their record to 2-7.
