Alpinists Snatch Late Win
In a low-scoring contest between the Beaumont Alpinists and the Nacogdoches Roaches, Manu Kavaliku was the X factor. The Beaumont right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Kavaliku, now 9-3, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Beaumont occupies first place in the Eastern Association Galveston Circuit at 24-19.

Had Darío Morales not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Morales hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Alpinists.

Morales said afterward that he was glad to help his team win.
