The Lubbock Layabouts defeated the Abilene Preachers, 3-2, in Western Association action at Lubbock Grounds. Lubbock pitcher Pedro Ayala had a standout performance. Ayala yielded 2 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 11 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 9-2. With the win, Lubbock goes to 21-20, while the Preachers fall to 15-26.

The decisive blow was delivered in the bottom of the ninth when Tito Camacho hit a run-scoring double off 36-year old left-handed pitcher Flavio Luis to win the game for Lubbock. The home crowd went wild.

"This place was electric at the end," Camacho said.
