A good performance from right fielder John Schmitz helped the Cincinnati Reds defeat the Louisville Colonels, 9-4. Schmitz went 3-5 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Reds. Tim Mayhugh, who led the WL in wins with 11 last year, was the winner. He's now 1-0. The loser was Adam Briggs. The win takes Cincinnati to 3-1.

Mike Donlin provided a timely hit. The Cincinnati pinch hitter delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the sixth inning to put the Reds on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in the game, but he made it count.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Schmitz.
