Getting a good performance from pinch hitter Leo González, the Lubbock Layabouts defeated the Abilene Preachers, 7-3. González went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Layabouts. The Layabouts saw their record improve to 67-55.

González had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 2-2 fastball from Bienvenido Martínez, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Layabouts a 7-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for González.

"We believe in ourselves and we're willing to work hard. It's a good combination," González told the Lubbock Chronicle.
