Amarillo registered a win at Horizons Park by beating the Wichita Falls Yardmen, 5-1. Pitcher Inocencio Ventura was one reason why the Horizons triumphed. At 67-56, the Horizons find themselves in second place in the Western Association Abilene Circuit.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Facundo Mendieta came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Wichita Falls pitcher Pablo Salas, he hit a 2-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Amarillo on top, 2-1.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Mendieta.
