Chicago right-hander Frank Groves helped his team edge Cleveland by the score of 3-2. Groves kept the opposing lineup in check. Toad Ramsey picked up the save for Chicago, his 1st of the year. Chicago is now 8-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, the Spiders allowed the Orphans to take a 3-2 lead on a base hit and Cleveland error.

Groves called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
