Atilano Castaño, who finished 2nd in the TORI in strikeouts with 136 in 1912, was locked in. The right-hander led the Holguin Pericos to a 4-3 win against the Las Tunas Escultores at Recinto Deportivo de Holguin. Demetrio Briones sewed up the save, his 19th. The Pericos, at 62-46, sit in first place in the Torneo Oriental Santiago de Cuba.

Bernabé Lugo dealt the Escultores a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Holguin leading 3-1, Lugo hit a 1-1 splitter for a run-scoring single.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Lugo. "And not try to do too much."
