Elefantes 3-0 Losers to Santa Clara
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Santa Clara Leopardos and the Cienfuegos Elefantes, pitcher Amadís Zavala was the difference between victory and defeat. The Santa Clara right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-0 Leopardos win. Zavala got the win, improving to 12-10. He gave up 3 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. He allowed no runs. The setback makes Cienfuegos 45-72.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the sixth, with the game tied, Paul Ridgway was at the plate when Santa Clara scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Leopardos to go in front, 1-0.
"Amadís was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Santa Clara manager Héctor Montoya.
