Martenos Get Clutch Win Versus Las Tunas
|
The Martenos grabbed a win, 4-3, at Estadio de los Escultores, overcoming a fine effort from Las Tunas pitcher Fernando Vázquez. Vázquez went 8 innings and allowed 4 runs. Casto Brana, the winning pitcher, is now 10-11. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 4. Víctor Rivera was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 23 save opportunities.
Manzanillo used a clutch hit from Pablo Salmerón to get the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Martenos ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"What's not to like about a win?" said Salmerón.
Manzanillo now has a record of 61-57 with the win.
