The rain came, as predicted, but the Las Tunas Escultores and Bayamo Rafagas were able to complete their ballgame.
The Las Tunas Escultores picked up a win at Estadio de los Escultores, knocking off the Bayamo Rafagas, 7-3. Starting pitcher Abdón Farías played a key role in the triumph. Farías got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 7 hits and walked 1 over 7.2 innings. He allowed 3 runs.
Had Marco Antonio Manzanares not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Manzanares hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Escultores.
"Abdón has got a slow heartbeat," said Las Tunas manager Alberto Nevárez. "He doesn't panic or anything."
After today's action, Las Tunas sits at 72-46, while Bayamo falls to 66-55.
