The Meadville Zips got their 1914 season off and running with a win over the Erie Commodores at XYZ Stadium. The final score was 2-1. Meadville pitcher Marcelino Jaques, in particular, had a fine performance.

Nick Uecker was the walk-off hero for Meadville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Zips pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Jaques.
