Blast Furnaces Get Plucky, 6-5 Win Over Tulips
The Gary Blast Furnaces had to overcome a fine effort from Holland pitcher Danilo Portillo to win, 6-5, at Sunlit Garden. Portillo went 6 innings and allowed no runs. The Tulips fall to 4-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 1915 season.

Gary used a timely hit from Gaspar Huerta to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blast Furnaces ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Huerta told the Gary Bulletin. "It's as simple as that."
