Half Moons Topple Lilac Stockings, 16-7, as Valero Shines
The Utica Half Moons defeated the Rochester Lilac Stockings, 16-7, at Perennial Blooming Park. Leading the charge for Utica was second baseman Pedro Valero. He went 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Carlos Sosa got the win, improving to 3-5. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Utica is first in the Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Ontario with a record of 20-11.

George Wright was a prime factor in the win for the Half Moons. In the top of the first with one out, the 25-year old shortstop hit a 2-run single. He was 2-6 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"It's fun coming to the ballpark," said Valero, "when you're on this kind of roll."
