Half Moons, Cruz Silence Syracuse, 2-0
|
The Syracuse Halites struggled at the plate against Half Moons hurler Florentino Cruz, who shackled them on 6 hits while hurling a complete-game 2-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said Halites skipper Jack Neagle in postgame comments. "Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Cruz finished the game with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," Utica manager Martin Bate said. "Florentino made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
Up to now Cruz has compiled an ERA of 2.02 with a 11-2 mark over 13 starts. He has 94 strikeouts in 116 innings and has held opponents to a .238 batting average.
