Orphans Beat Colonels, 7-4
|
The Chicago Orphans downed the Louisville Colonels, 7-4. The hitting star was second baseman Charlie Irwin. Irwin went 3 for 3 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs for the Orphans. Ian Moseley, 3-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. The Orphans, at 33-23, sit in first place in the Western League.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Bill Dahlen came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Louisville pitcher Jason Gunter, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 6-4.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Dahlen told the Chicago Observer.
