Bayamo right-hander Vicente Melchor was sensational. The Quebradillas, Arecibo native blanked the Santiago de Cuba Soneros, 1-0. With the win, Bayamo goes to 74-53, while the Soneros fall to 57-74.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 33-year old third baseman Jesús Sánchez had a chance to be the hero. Santiago de Cuba pitcher Jesús Sánchez had other ideas. But with one out, Sánchez drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Rafagas had themselves a dramatic win.

"We just didn't score enough runs to win," said Santiago de Cuba manager Jorge Sánchez.
