Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Sault St. Marie Rapids and Marquette Smelters.

The Sault St. Marie Rapids rode a solid performance from 34-year-old starting pitcher Telamón Torres to a win, beating the Marquette Smelters, 3-2, at Pig Iron Stadium. Con Lucid, now 1-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings.

Curtis Carlin had a direct impact on the outcome. Carlin contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Sault St. Marie up, 3-2.

"I felt good. I felt like I was locating the ball well and I was able to keep them off-balance," said Torres.

At 30-38, the Rapids find themselves in 4th place in the Western Great Lakes Association League of Lake Superior.
