Crowds lined up early in front of The Potato Patch, eagerly awaiting the start of the 1915 Baseball League of New England season. On the mound was Harry Felix for the visiting Manchester Gamblers and Bernardo Ramírez for the hometown Derry Spuds. In a spirited contest, the Gamblers pulled out the win, defeating the Spuds by the score of 5-4. Especially impressive was Harry Felix. Felix yielded 4 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0.
In the top of the 6th, right fielder Balbino Rojas gave Manchester the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Gamblers had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out single off Derry pitcher Bernardo Ramírez changed that -- and Manchester went on to win.
"It's a mindset," said Felix. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."
