Starting pitcher George Mullin gave the Cincinnati Reds a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Cleveland Spiders, 2-1, at League Park I. Mullin, now 10-6, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Cincinnati is now 39-33, Cleveland 34-35.
Mullin broke a deadlock in the top of the seventh inning, when he hit a sacrifice fly, putting Cincinnati up, 2-1.
"George showed what he's made of," said Cincinnati manager Marshall Locke.
