Almandeto Castro never let Manchester get something going. The Derry right-hander commanded his slider in pitching the Spuds to a 5-0 win. Castro picked up the win for Derry, going 8 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Manchester, with the loss, is still a hardy 3-1.

Derry catcher Luis Zúñiga contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a cutter to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Spuds ahead, 2-0.

"Almandeto was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Derry manager Douglas Stevens.
