Pilot Whales 3-2 Losers to Providence
|
The Providence Gems picked up a win at The Mine, topping the Newport Pilot Whales, 3-2. On the mound for Providence was right-hander Silvio Rojas. He played a principal role in the triumph. Al Burris zipped up his 3rd save. Newport, with the loss, is 9-7.
Justino Betancourt went 1 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch for Providence. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Betancourt, who is tied for 8th in the SNEA with a 1.024 OPS, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Newport hurler Santiago Treviño, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Gems a 3-2 lead.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Betancourt.
