Win Goes to Pilot Whales in Tight Contest
It was pandemonium at The Pod Pad after an exciting walk-off win.

The Newport Pilot Whales did just enough to sneak past the Providence Gems, 5-4, at The Pod Pad. Newport pitcher Bert Jones, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Palamedes Álvarez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Guiomar Pérez took the loss.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 32-year old right fielder Nuño Yañes had a chance to be the hero. Providence pitcher Guiomar Pérez had other ideas. But with no outs, Yañes drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Pilot Whales had themselves a dramatic win.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Jones said.

Providence falls to 10-15.
