Chicago and Louisville duked it out and the Orphans came out victorious.

The Chicago Orphans got a magnificent effort from pitcher Frank Groves, who kept Louisville hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Orphans win at West Side Grounds 1894-1915. The second-place Orphans now have a record of 44-37.

Groves, the winner, is now 10-9. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 1 run on 5 hits, while collecting 5 Ks. He essentially shut down the Louisville offense.

"If you can control the count and control the hitter, you're going to have the upper hand," said Groves.
