Spiders Lose Late to Reds
The home crowd came to cheer on their first-place Cincinnati Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds beat the Cleveland Spiders, 5-4, at League Park II 1894-1901. Sam Weston, who is tied for 8th in the WL with a .360 on-base percentage, starred for Cincinnati. He went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. James Durham, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings.

Sam Holmes was the walk-off hero for Cincinnati. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Reds pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"It was a good effort all around," said Holmes.

Cincinnati, at 27-16, occupies first place in the Western League.
