Providence Gems starter Baldovino Font pitched well against the Newport Pilot Whales at The Pod Pad, leading his team to a win, 3-2. The winner was Font. He threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jacinto Soto. Picking up his 6th save was 37-year old right-handed pitcher Al Burris.

Providence used a timely hit from Enrique Treviño to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gems ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.

"Tough loss," said Newport manager Jackson Strelioff. "But we'll learn from it."

The win puts Providence at 17-32.
