The Woonsocket Foxes topped the Newport Pilot Whales, 6-5, in Southern New England Association action at The Foxhole. The standout performance belonged to Woonsocket pitcher and Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, native Urías Hernández. Hernández, now 11-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 11, walking 4, and allowing 5 runs. The save went to Amador Díaz, his 4th this season.

Ernesto Zavala hit a run-scoring double off Palamedes Álvarez in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Foxes in front, 6-5. In addition to the double, Zavala had 1 single, while going 2 for 3.

"You can never predict what'll happen," Zavala said. "That's why you play the game."

The win makes Woonsocket 37-43.
