González Now 9-7 After Subduing Drawbridges

Ballpark By The Water hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
In a low-scoring contest between the Griswold Vampires and the Mystic Drawbridges, José González, who is tied for 4th in the SNEA in strikeouts with 131, proved to be the difference. The Griswold right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-1 Vampires win. Griswold currently is in first place in the Southern New England Association Connecticut Circuit at 46-35.
González, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 5 in 9 innings and gave up 1 run.
González, who is tied for 4th in the SNEA in strikeouts with 131, moves to 9-7 on the year with 131 strikeouts.
In comments to the Griswold Citizen, González admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
