|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Providence Gems and the Newport Pilot Whales, 25-year old right-handed pitcher Silvio Rojas was the difference-maker. The Providence right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The Gems now have a record of 34-51.
With runs few and far between, the Gems had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Providence came in the bottom of the fifth inning, when 27-year old third baseman Enrique Treviño delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off José María López and made the score 3-1, Gems. Treviño went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"We've got to kick it in gear soon," said Newport manager Jackson Strelioff.
