Gems Slap 3-1 Loss on Woonsocket
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Providence-Woonsocket ballgame.
The Providence Gems used a great performance from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Baldovino Font to beat the Woonsocket Foxes, 3-1, at The Foxhole. Al Burris closed the game out for Providence, earning his 9th save.
Providence used the timely hitting of Hughie Ramsay to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gems on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Ramsay attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
The last-place Gems now have a win-loss record of 35-61.
