Gems Rally Late to Nip Pilot Whales
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Providence Gems and Newport Pilot Whales.

The Providence Gems clipped the Newport Pilot Whales, 5-4, in 10 innings at The Pod Pad. The standout performance belonged to Providence pitcher and Lynchburg, Virginia, native Kit McKenna. Al Burris notched his 10th save of the season.

Providence used a timely hit from Esteban Ramírez to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Gems ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"My job is to go out and execute," said McKenna.

The Gems are now 38-65, while the Pilot Whales fall to 51-52.
