Quarrymen Stumble, Losing to Melodeons, 8-2
Brattleboro pitcher Luis Hernández had a large part in his team subduing the Rutland Quarrymen, 8-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. In 9 innings, Hernández surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. At 62-43, the Melodeons claim first place in the Northern New England Association Vermont Circuit.

The Melodeons got a big hit from designated hitter Atenágoras Sánchez. Facing Rutland pitcher Mario Castro in the bottom of the sixth, Sánchez pounded a 2-run double to right. His 8th double of the season put the Melodeons ahead, 4-2.

"It was a solid team effort," said Hernández after the game.
