Rodríguez Leads Charge, Cranston Blasts Gems
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Cranston and Providence from playing their scheduled game.
The Cranston Madonnas powered past the Providence Gems, 13-3, at Madonna's Niche. Ángel Rodríguez provided some of the pop. He was 3-3 with a home run, a triple, and a walk, while scoring 4 times and driving in 7. Ciro Quintanar earned the win to go to 9-10. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Jorge Quijas finished the game for Cranston and earned his 8th save.
Rodríguez contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Cranston in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Rodríguez took a fastball from Silvio Rojas and stroked the home run to right. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Madonnas to leap in front, 4-1.
"Sometimes, the runs just come in bunches," said winning manager Marcos Aldarondo.
By defeating Providence, the second-place Madonnas improved to 61-48.
