Quebeckers Use Late Rally to Win
|
The Lewiston Quebeckers used a top-flight performance from 33-year old left-handed pitcher Tom Ferry to beat the Waterville Elms, 3-0, in 10 innings. Eddie Quick snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits over 3.1 innings. He's now 4-4 on the season. At 42-73, Lewiston is in last place in the Northern New England Association Maine Circuit.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for René Troche? The 32-year old first baseman Troche stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Lewiston up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Waterville skipper Milt Scott, "and it cost us."
