Deep Ones 4-2 Winners Versus Winchendon
|
Newburyport and Winchendon duked it out and the Deep Ones came out victorious.
Thanks in large part to designated hitter Alastair Hawkes, the Newburyport Deep Ones beat the Winchendon Rocking Horses, 4-2. Hawkes was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. At 56-69, the Deep Ones are currently third in the Southern New England Association Massachusetts Circuit.
Hawkes had a consequential at-bat in the top of the fifth for the Deep Ones. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Newburyport trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run single.
"When you win, you always have confidence," said Newburyport skipper Alton Muir. "Nobody likes to lose. Losing is a downer. That's how we look at it. It's always good to win."
