Careyes Snatch Late-Game, 9-8 Win
The Culebra Careyes overcame a good performance by Luquillo second baseman Cristóbal Pijuán to knock off Luquillo, 9-8, in 11 innings at Parquecito de Luquillo. Pijuán went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to 22-year old right-handed pitcher Lisandro Escalera in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Miguel Fragoso took the loss. The win puts the Careyes at 16-8, while the Comecocos drop to 10-14.

Culebra used the clutch hitting of Camilo Pérez to snag the win. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Careyes ahead, 9-8. It was his lone hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Hitting, winning. It's just contagious," said Pérez.
