Despite the rain, the fans at Parquecito de Gurabo enjoyed a good ballgame.

The Gurabo Escaleras beat the Culebra Careyes, 3-2. Gurabo pitcher and Carolina, Puerto Rico, native Cipriano Martínez led the way. Zenón Rivas picked up the save, his 1st.

The Careyes had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Escaleras going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old first baseman Urayoán Frías came to the plate. Frías hit a 2-run home run on a full count cutter from Culebra hurler Nemesio García. It was Frías's 4th home run of the year.

"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Frías told the Gurabo Bulletin. "You win just by scoring more runs."

The Escaleras saw their win-loss record go to 11-36. At the same time, the Careyes fell to 18-27.
