Whalebacks Bag 3-1 Win
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Superior Whalebacks and the Duluth Zeniths. Superior won it, 3-1. Superior starter Zoilo Álvarez was in command. Álvarez got the win, improving to 11-8. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 5.2 innings. He allowed 1 run. At 29-49, the Whalebacks are currently last in the Western Great Lakes Association League of Lake Superior.
In the bottom of the ninth, Vicente Esquivel stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Zeniths were trailing 3-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when Chris Brierley made a terrific pitch and Esquivel struck out. Gone was the dream of a Duluth comeback.
