Mentor Rose Stockings starter Red Ames hurled his team past the Meadville Zips, 6-2. Mentor, at 50-28, sits in first place in the Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Erie.

Mentor used the clutch hitting of Moose McCormick to snag the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rose Stockings ahead, 6-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Winning is not something we take for granted," McCormick said.
