Hydropathists Take Down Half Moons, 2-1
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Oswego Hydropathists take on the Utica Half Moons.
Starting pitcher Ciriaco Méndez gave the Oswego Hydropathists a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Utica Half Moons, 2-1, at Water Cure Park. Méndez, the winner, moves to 9-6. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 5 walks.
With runs few and far between, the Hydropathists had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Oswego came in the bottom of the third inning, when 25-year old third baseman Osiris Mena delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Florentino Cruz and made the score 2-0, Hydropathists. Mena was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Méndez.
After today's action, Oswego sits at 35-44, while Utica falls to 48-28.
