Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Grand Marais Voyageurs and Marquette Smelters.

The Grand Marais Voyageurs had to overcome a big game from Marquette pinch hitter Marcos Lara to leave Pig Iron Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 7-4. Lara went 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Grand Marais starter Luke Paterson was credited with the win after throwing 134 pitches over 8 innings. His record now stands at 8-9. Getting the save was Marcos Gerena, his 9th.

Isidro Gómez had a big 2-run home run for the Voyageurs in the top of the fourth inning. With Grand Marais leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Marco García and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Voyageurs on top, 4-0.

"Enjoyed this one," Gómez told the Grand Marais Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

With the win, Grand Marais raised its record to 41-38.
