The Utica Half Moons knocked off the Syracuse Halites, 10-3, in Eastern Great Lakes Association action at Cookie Cutter Park. Utica pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico, native Luis Quiroz had an outstanding performance. Quiroz got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 3 hits and walked 6 over 6.1 innings. He allowed no runs. Utica currently is in first place in the Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Ontario at 50-33.

The Half Moons got an important contribution from left fielder Max Dills, who in the bottom of the second hit a slider to center for a bases-clearing double. It was his 11th double of the season and put the Half Moons ahead, 4-0.

"We take it day by day here," said Dills, "and today was a good one for us."
