Utica beat Irondequoit in a rain-soaked ballgame.

The Utica Half Moons topped the Irondequoit Peach Kings, 8-3, in Eastern Great Lakes Association action at Fairweather Park. The standout performance belonged to Utica pitcher and Caguas, Puerto Rico, native Carlos Sosa. Sosa, now 9-8, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 3 runs.

Utica used a well-timed hit by Joffrey Marin to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Half Moons ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Sosa said. "We did a good job of that today."

Utica now owns a record of 45-44.
