Starting pitcher Red Ames pitched well enough to help the Mentor Rose Stockings beat the Norwalk Maples, 6-4. Mentor goes to 69-42, Norwalk to 55-56.

Mentor used the timely hitting of Greg Manos to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rose Stockings on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Manos said.
