Toribio Gamboa of the Superior Whalebacks shut out the Duluth Zeniths, 9-0, at Edmund Fitzgerald Park, holding them to 6 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Pressed for comments on his club's defeat, Duluth skipper Fred Corey called the outing from Gamboa "a jewel."

"The way Gamboa was pitching, it would have been tough for anyone to beat him," he said.

This year, Gamboa has compiled a 9-16 mark with a 5.11 ERA.
